Brian N. Stretcher, Ph.D.
Attorney and Counselor at Law

About the Firm
Brian N. Stretcher, Ph.D., is what you would probably call a General Practice attorney. Brian will take cases in most areas of the law, with some exceptions, of course. If he can't take your case, however, he will help you find someone that can.
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Brian grew up in a small town in southern Indiana, graduating from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in 1983. Brian received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Cincinnati in 1989. After six years of academic research at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, as many people do he embarked on a new career in a totally different direction. Brian graduated from the University of Cinncinnati College of Law in May 1998, and was licensed to practice law in Ohio later that same year.
Being a little more "experienced" than most newly minted attorneys, Brian sought the independence of running his own practice in Ohio. From his small office in a northern suburb of Cincinnati, he accepted cases in all four southwest Ohio counties within a driveable range. Most cases came from Hamilton County, which is home to the City of Cincinnati and the most populated area in that part of the state. However, he also practiced in the rural counties outside of Cincinnati. He ran his one man operation successfully for nearly 15 years.
In 2007, while vacationing in Transylvania County for the first time, Brian and his wife, Denise, bought three acres of property out in the Old Toxaway area. They and their children vacationed in the area frequently as the children finished high school. When the youngest graduated in 2013, Brian and Denise made their dream of living in the mountains of North Carolina come true.
Brian received his law license by comity from North Carolina in 2014, and opened his office on West Main Street, Brevard, in August the same year. He brings and offers his extensive litigation experience to the people of Brevard, Rosman, and all of Transylvania County.
Brian prides himself on his practical approach to practicing law. He takes the term "counselor" very seriously; rather than simply serving as a hired gun, Brian listens to his clients' needs and then counsels and guides them on the course they might take to best meet their objectives. Sometimes it is simply a matter of determining what the client's objectives actually are, with the best solution quite simple and not requiring any sort of formal legal action. Sometimes the best solution might be discussion and settlement with the other side. But sometimes there is no choice but to take a matter to court, and have the matter decided by a judge or jury.
Brian is currently accepting new clients in Transylvania and Henderson Counties.
Services
Brian offers a full range of legal services, primarily in the areas of Family Law and matters of General Litigation; specific Areas of Practice can be found at right. Brian does not handle bankruptcy, social security disability, worker's compensation claims, or intellectual property matters. But if he cannot handle your case as outside his areas of expertise, it is often possible for him to help you find someone who can. The first consultation is usually free!
Hours are by appointment, and can be tailored to meet the client's needs. Depending on availability, some evening and weekend appointments are available by special arrangement. The office is conveniently located in Straus Park across from the road to the hospital. The office is first-floor accessible and there is ample close parking.
Fee structures vary by case type and complexity, and may be tailored to the client's ability to pay. See the Practice Areas page for more information on fees for certain types of cases.
"Proudly serving the underserved for more than 20 years!"
